Harrisburg
is the capital of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, in the United
States of America. As of the 2000 census, the city had a population of
48,950, making it the ninth largest city in Pennsylvania, after
Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Allentown, Erie, Reading, Scranton, Bethlehem
and Lancaster. The Harrisburg-Carlisle-Lebanon combined statistical area
contains 647,390 residents.

concert events at the Hershey Theatre, the GIANT Center or Hersheypark
Stadium.

historical museum, art gallery stroll or winery tour will show you lots
of different sides to our region. The Whitaker center in Harrisburg
showcases the most unique national touring acts and live performers, and
major league baseball players get their start playing for the
Harrisburg Senators baseball team.
Harrisburg is also the home of the annual Pennsylvania Farm Show, the
largest agricultural exhibition of its kind in the nation. Farmers from
all over Pennsylvania come to show their animals and participate in
competitions. Livestock are on display for people to interact with and
view. In 2004, Harrisburg hosted CowParade, an international public art
exhibit that has been featured in major cities all over the world.
Fiberglass sculptures of cows are decorated by local artists, and
distributed over the city centre, in public places such as train
stations and parks. They often feature artwork and designs specific to
local culture, as well as city life and other relevant themes.
